Prerequisites: Keyboard is unplugged or the laptop is powered off

Goal

Remove crumbs and dust so keys travel cleanly, without liquid in the switches.

  1. Unplug a USB keyboard, or shut the laptop down.
  2. Turn it upside down and tap the back so loose debris falls out.
  3. Brush between keys with a dry, soft brush. Hold a compressed-air can upright if you use one.
  4. Only pull keycaps if you already know how they reseat on this board.
  5. Wipe the case with a barely damp cloth. Keep liquid off the switches.
